Anti-Roll Bar

The Anti-Roll Bar is a crucial component within the vehicle dynamics subsystem. The purpose of the anti-roll bar is to reduce the amount of sway or roll in the vehicle when it experiences high degrees of lateral g-force. This is done by adding resistence to the allowance for vertical travel between left and right rear control arms.

Using last year's design seen above as a baseline, the goal this year is to reduce the overall weight without compromising the factor of safety and rigidity. Invetigate the praticallity of using steel plates instead of milled alluminum to streamline the manfacturing process.

One of the highlights of the design process is the use of solidworks generative topology study tool. The built-in simulation conducts large amounts of interation to the mesh to identify points of low stress concentration. This was done to find an optimal cutout design given the design goals and constraints, maxmising strength to weight ratio.

The waterjetter in our shop is absolutely an investment that I will forever be thankful for. Shout out to Derek for getting to my request done within the week. The steel design was scrapped early on, the weight saving and expertise needed to make it work just wasn't present.

Wrote my first CNC programme, double checked and triple checked that I wont be breaking any endmills when I hit run.
